DATAWorks (Defense and Aerospace Test and Analysis (DATA) Workshop) is the result of a multi-organization collaboration with the Director of Operational Test & Evaluation within the Office of the Secretary of Defense, NASA, the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA), and the Section on Statistics in Defense and National Security (SDNS) of the American Statistical Association.  This year’s workshop has a new name because we are merging efforts between last year’s Science of Test Workshop ( and the Conference on Applied Statistics in Defense (, which evolved from the original Army Conference on Design of Experiments.

The workshop is strategically designed to strengthen the community leveraging rigorous statistical approaches to test design and analysis of data in defense and aerospace.  The workshop will have a mix of applied problems, unique methodological approaches, and tutorials from leading academics.  The goal is to facilitate collaboration among all involved, including expanding our impact to other government agencies.

Workshop Themes

This year the breakout sessions and mini-tutorials will be grouped throughout the workshop by conceptual themes. The breakout sessions are intended to promote discussion and knowledge sharing, while the mini-tutorials advance the education and refine analytical tools relevant to the track theme. The breakout sessions and mini-tutorials planned for Wednesday and Thursday (March 21st and 22nd) will focus on the following 6 themes:

DATAWorks 2018 Workshop Themes

1: Statistical Engineering for Defense and Aerospace

2: Experimental Design Methods for System Design and Characterization

3: Humans are Part of the System: Implications for Test Planning and Analysis

4: Rigorous Use of Modeling and Simulation

5: Statistical Engineering for Autonomous Systems

6: Data Science
